Saint Isabel group to hold inaugural Holiday Craft Bazaar

An island church is set to host its first-ever seasonal event, and the public is invited to stop by.
The Holiday Craft Bazaar will take place on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the parish hall at the Saint Isabel Catholic Church, at 3559 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel. The event is being hosted by the parish Society of Bread and Roses.
“It’s our first try at this,” society President Mary Aufderheide said.
She explained that the women’s group is relatively new, having been founded about three years ago. Following the formation, the members had discussed hosting such an event, but then the pandemic hit.
Aufderheide continued that they recently resumed holding regular meetings.
“So, this year, we decided to go ahead with it,” she said.
“We’re hoping it will become an annual affair,” Aufderheide noted.
The bazaar will feature a variety of crafts and items handmade by members and parishioners.
“We have embroidered pillows, kitchen towels, place mats, napkins — a variety of things for fall and Christmas,” she said. “We’ll have a little coastal corner, where there’ll be shell crafts and nautical.”
“And we have quite a few knitted and crocheted items,” Aufderheide added.
She explained that one member hand-crafted about 25 tote bags.
“They’re all different fabrics and sizes,” Aufderheide said.
Attendees will also find unique handmade rosaries, which will likely be priced at $100-$150.
“Most of it’s going to be under $50,” she said.
The event will also feature a Yesterday’s Treasures area with a selection of gently used items.
“There will be Christmas items. Ornaments that people have donated, Christmas plates, some Lenox,” Aufderheide said, adding that nothing should be over $30. “There will be a variety of nice things.”
The bazaar will also feature a bake sale.
“We’re having banana nut bread, probably pumpkin bread, cookies,” she said.
“They’ll be individually wrapped and ready to go,” Aufderheide added. “They’ll be kind of festive.”
Masks are encouraged, but they are not mandatory.
“We’ll try to do social distancing as much as we can,” she said.
Event proceeds will go to the society and its members will decide on how to distribute the funds.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out.
“I think they’ll find some very unique one-of-a-kind items that they would be very happy with,” Aufderheide said. “And it’s a worthy cause — it will go to the parish, it will go to charity.”
Cash and checks can only be accepted.
