Lions Club to sell Christmas trees for annual fundraiser

The day after Thanksgiving marks a Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club holiday tradition — its annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser will kick off. The old gas station located at the Bailey’s Shopping Center will turn into a wonderland of 150 premium fraser firs, freshly cut and shipped in from Michigan.
From Nov. 27 through Dec. 19, or until the supply runs out, the trees will be available for purchase Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The trees are between 5 feet and 10 feet tall.
“We are fortunate to have a wonderful source of full, healthy and long-lasting premium trees. Our customers return year after year due to the quality of our trees,” event chair and club President Steve Schulz said. “Last year, our trees sold out within two weeks so be advised and shop early.”
Island delivery and setup are available.
Due to COVID-19, protocols will again be in place this year. The club will have hand sanitizer available, social distancing will be practiced, and all Lions volunteers will be wearing masks. For the safety of all involved, the club is requesting that customers also wear a mask when they come by.
The Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club began selling fresh Christmas trees more than 40 years ago. The event has since grown to become one of the club’s largest fundraisers, as well as a tradition on the islands.
“The entire club pitches in, from set up to selling, which ensures 100 percent of our earnings goes directly to the charitable work of the Lions Club,” Schulz said.
The club thanked Richard Johnson and Bailey’s for providing the space and continuing to support the Lions. It also thanked the Sanibel Fire and Rescue Department, which helped to unload the trees.
The club welcomes anyone who would like to help with the fundraiser.
