Lindsey Gordon, of Butte, Montana, found a junonia Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. in front of the Plantation Beach Club at the South Sea Island Resort on Captiva. She reported that workers had just finished dredging in the spot and cleared it for public use. Gordon found the shell half buried under the sand, close to where her family’s feet were sitting. She continued that about an hour and 45 minutes later her mother, Shirley McLendon, of Lewistown, Montana, found a junonia poking out of the sand about 30 feet from where she had found hers. Gordon’s father commented, “We’ve been coming here for over 40 years and never found one, and now we find two in one day?!” She added that it was so exciting, and that the dredging is bringing up some nice treasures.
