City: Hurricane season is winding down
The city of Sanibel reported that the hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin (Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico) is June 1 to Nov. 30. A storm can occur anytime, however the busiest period is mid-August to mid-October.
For those who have not taken the Local Mitigation Strategy Survey, there is still time to complete it. It is an opportunity to provide input on the planning document that is updated every five years. Visit https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/2e41731c224047e3a0a5d16d98c9d290. Select your location as “City of Sanibel.” For “How did you hear about the survey,” select “Other” and enter “Sanibel Press Release.” You can then give your feedback on the Local Mitigation Strategy Plan. All surveys and information are sent to the Lee County Emergency Operations Center for analysis.
To be prepared for any emergencies, the city reminded the public to review the following topics on its website (https://www.mysanibel.com/): Hurricane Reentry Pass, Family Emergency Plan, Special Needs Program, Lee County All Hazards Guide and Flood Hazards.
