CAPTIVA CHAPEL BY THE SEA The Rev. Larry and Rosemary Marshall

On Nov. 14, Sunday services will resume at the Chapel by the Sea for the 73rd season.

The Rev. Larry Marshall invites all to attend the inter-denominational worship, which will be held weekly at 11 a.m. through the end of April. He and his wife, Rosemary, are marking their third year of a special four-year ministry with the chapel.

The chapel recommends that those attending a service inside the chapel wear a mask. For those who chose to worship outside, it will continue to space the chairs outdoors in a way to provide some distance between couples, singles and families. No masking will be suggested for outdoor attendees.

Services will be videotaped and posted on the chapel’s website and Facebook page for viewing.

Beginning Nov. 30, Advent Bible study will be held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.

Upcoming events include:

– Nov. 24: Thanksgiving Eve service at 4 p.m.

– Dec. 12: Carol Sing at 5 p.m.

– Dec. 24: Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m.

– Dec. 25: Christmas Day service at 11 a.m.

In addition, the chapel is open daily to visitors. Learn how the early-1900s schoolhouse became a chapel. In 2015, The Chapel Cemetery and The Captiva School/Chapel by the Sea were recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lying along the Gulf of Mexico, the chapel’s setting and style opens possibilities for connections that are deep and nurturing. The gentle breezes off the water, soaring ospreys and sea gulls, gathering of people from different states, countries and faith traditions, and sounds of sacred music all contribute to the soul-inspiring and spiritually uplifting experience.

The chapel is said by many to be, in the words of Celtic spirituality, a “thin place” where God is uniquely present. It is not just a cute little church, “It is a place where God lives.”

The chapel is a mission church, offering support to not-for-profits locally and worldwide. Nearly half of its offerings go to support: Community Cooperative, ECHO, El Hogar, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Community Housing and Resources, Quality Life Center, The Heights Foundation and The South Fort Myers Food Pantry.
