The city of Sanibel and the Lee Coast Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will host the Annual Veterans Day Essay Contest for island youths in grades 4-8.

Two winners will be selected, one girl and one boy.

The winning essays will be read at the Veterans Day Ceremony on Sanibel.

Participants are asked to submit a half-page to one page handwritten — by themselves — paper about the topic: “What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?”

Scan and email submissions to Gabrielle.Cooper-Angeles@mysanibel.com or drop them off at the front desk at the Sanibel Recreation Center, at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 26 at 5 p.m.
