Veteran, family honored with stay on-island
Recently, New Jersey Rotarian Forrest Elliott, who owns a condo at Casa Ybel on Sanibel, decided to donate a week to a veteran and family. It was his way of saying, “Thank you for your service,” and it was given in honor of his father who served in World War II and a cousin who lost his life in Vietnam. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer-4 Jarrod Murphy was chosen to enjoy a week of recreation and relaxation in August. Murphy’s military career of 26 years was steeped with ever-increasing command duties and responsibilities. He completed 19 military training schools, culminating in a promotion to the rank of chief warrant officer. His decorations include the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Commendations for Humanitarianism, Volunteerism and Sea Service, plus Combat Action deployments for serving three tours of duty in Iraq in 2001, 2006 and 2008 and one tour in Afghanistan in 2010. Murphy retired from active duty in 2020. Currently, he is the Supervisor of the Courts for the 20th Judicial Circuit in the Lee County Clerk of Courts. Murphy and his wife, Jenna, live in Cape Coral with their children.
