Sanibel library features games, new collections
Stop by the Sanibel Public Library to play with the new digital board game table.
The Infinity Game Table features digital versions of classic and iconic board games, like Hasbro’s Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Chutes and Ladders, and Candy Land, Yahtzee, along with puzzles, card games, coloring books, comic books and more. It can be found near the puzzle area.
Stop by to see a collection of 100 origami created by Cabe Rieck. Rieck is a self-taught artist and has been creating origami for about four years. Look in the display case on the east side, near the glass elevator. To learn how to make Ddakji, get “how to” instructions and paper near the East Service Desk. Sometimes called ttakji, Ddakji is a traditional South Korean game played using folded paper tiles.
In addition, a Sanibel-Captiva Art League exhibit is on display at the library until Nov. 22. It includes artwork by members Gloria Krekel, Mary H. Klunk, Donna Filomio, Dave Tomkins and Carolyn Johns.
Permanent displays include Elsie M. Malone’s collection of Florida and Caribbean shells in the Main Entrance Lobby and ancient shell fossils in a cabinet near new fiction. Jeffrey Oths’ collection of antique, shell-encrusted items like pincushions, mother-of-pearl opera glasses, carved cameos and dioramas is also on display in the Main Entrance Lobby. In addition, visitors can see Goz Gosselin’s award-winning 3-foot-tall floral arrangement, “Millenium Shellabration,” by the Book Sale Room.
If you have a unique and interesting collection to share, contact the library.
The Book Sale Room has new fiction, coffee table books, magazines, CDs and young adult books. Most books are priced under $4. In the lobby, there is a $1 per book sale with bestseller fiction.
