TOWER GALLERY The 15th annual Attic Sale will return on Oct. 22-24 at the Tower Gallery on Sanibel.

The Tower Gallery on Sanibel is ready to go for its 15th annual Attic Sale on Oct. 22-24.

The event provides art enthusiasts and supporters the chance to browse through and purchase work from some of the co-operative’s award-winning artists — at discounted prices. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days, with artwork on the gallery’s porch and under tents on the grounds.

“It does kick off our season, and it is a chance for artists to kind of clean out their studios of work that maybe didn’t sell or make it to the gallery,” artist and co-op Board Member Kelly Morrison said.

It is also a way to give back to the locals and community that supports it year after year.

“Everything is at a discounted price,” she said.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, some of last year’s safety measures will again be in place.

“Hand sanitizer stations placed throughout,” Morrison said. “We’re going to stick with multiple checkout sites for the convenience, for checking out fast and for social distancing, so no long lines.”

Unlike last year, attendees will not be required to wear masks.

“We prefer a mask inside the gallery, but we’re not mandating it,” she said. “We want people to do what’s comfortable for them as far as mask wearing.”

The Tower Gallery represents over 25 local artists working in a multitude of mediums, including sculpture, oil painting, watercolor, acrylics, raku, pottery, photography, jewelry and more.

“It will be a wide array of mediums, everything from our painters — watercolor, oil, mixed media pieces — to functional art, such as our pottery. There’s metal sculpture, collage. I do whimsical wooden fish,” Morrison said. “And we do have a few new artists at the gallery that we acquired this season.”

Something new this season that it will unveil during the sale is Christmas ornaments created by a majority of the co-op’s artists. She explained that the first ones will be available for purchase.

“It’s brand new, but I’m hoping it will become a tradition,” Morrison said. “We will have those through Christmas. The artists will be restocking them and bringing them to the gallery as they make them.”

The event is also a chance to meet the artists and learn about their work.

“We’re always happy to talk about our process,” she said, adding that there will be four or five artists onsite on rotating shifts and attendees seeking a particular artist can call to find out when he or she will be there.

The public is encouraged to stop by.

“It’s the biggest selection, the largest selection of the year — the pieces are priced to sell,” Morrison said. “And we have several new artists who joined this past year, so it’s their first time.”

She also explained that providing quality art at lower prices does not just benefit the community, it benefits the artists who can then use the money to purchase materials for creating new works.

“We can buy more art supplies and make more art for them through the season,” Morrison said. “So you’re supporting the artists, too.”
