San-Cap Nature Calendar donates to SCCF

Jim Fowler, publisher of The Sanibel-Captiva Nature Calendar, recently donated $1,000 to the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation. It marked the 33rd annual donation to a conservation organization. Since first publishing in 1988, it has become a tradition each fall to donate a portion of the calendar proceeds to one organization listed inside the rear cover. To date, about $26,689 has been donated. The SCCF was selected because of its extensive ongoing programs to protect and preserve the land, waters and wildlife on and around Sanibel and Captiva and the neighboring areas. Fowler stated, “In the 1960s, after the first causeway was completed, developers proposed to make Sanibel and Captiva the Miami Beach of the West Coast. Thanks to the founding members of SCCF, the course of development on Sanibel was forever changed and guided by principles that placed land and wildlife protection before profit-driven uncontrolled growth. Early SCCF staff and volunteers provided the money and studies needed by the newly founded city of Sanibel to develop their land use plan. Today, SCCF staff, members and volunteers continue to provide the programs, studies and public education to protect the land, the wildlife and the aquatic environments in the area.”
