Reports: Shooting on Sanibel Causeway leaves two injured

Two people were reportedly injured in a recent weekend shooting on the Sanibel Causeway.
At about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the causeway in reference to a reported shooting. According to the redacted LCSO report, detectives later responded to the scene and assumed the investigation based upon the circumstances of the reported incident.
The Sanibel Police Department also responded to the scene as an assisting agency.
According to a SPD report, Sanibel police responded to Island B — the one closest to Sanibel — in reference to a 911 hang up. Prior to arriving on scene, the officer was advised that the call was related to a shooting that potentially occurred on Island B in which a white male was shot in the stomach by another white male. No clothing nor vehicle description was provided.
The report states that officers checked both Islands B and A to no avail. While on scene, the LCSO advised that the victim had been transported to the HealthPark Medical Center by an unknown person.
According to a second SPD report, another officer responded to Island B in reference to the possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers checked the area but were unable to locate any victims or suspects.
The officer reported that while on scene, it was learned that two shooting victims had admitted themselves into HealthPark and the Lee Memorial Hospital. Sanibel officers assisted the LCSO in locating the crime scene and stood by until their presence was no longer needed.
No further information was available as of press time.
The incident remained under investigation by the lead agency, the LCSO.
