Fire district supporting Pink Heels Foundation
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Captiva Island Fire Control District is selling shirts during the month of October — or until it runs out of inventory — with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit the local chapter of the Pink Heels Foundation. Fire Chief Jeff Pawul reported that the crews have worn special shirts in past years to raise awareness, but it is the first year they have partnered with the foundation to help raise funds for the cause. He noted that many of the fire agencies in Lee County are participating this year. The shirts cost $20 each and can be purchased at the fire station, at 14981 Captiva Drive, Captiva.
