Festival to feature candy, costume contest and more

The Community House will again host its annual Fall Fest as a drive-thru event for the public.
On Oct. 31, trick-o-treaters of all ages and their pets are invited to drive around the venue from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be a handful of candy collection stations, fun games, a costume contest and more.
“It’s one of our favorite multi-generational events that we do, and it’s been a tradition at The Community House for so long,” Director of Marketing and Event Planning Sarah Jacobson said.
In light of the pandemic, organizers changed it last year from an in-person format.
“With the current health situation, we didn’t want to have to give up this event,” she said, explaining that they have gotten to see different families come through and the children grow over the years.
Jacobson reported that there will be four or five spots for vehicles to stop and visit.
“Because people enjoyed it so much last year, we’ve added additional stops” she said, noting that each stop will have its own theme and keeps safety in mind. “The candy distribution will be touch-less.”
“There will be games throughout the entire thing,” Jacobson added.
Attendees can collect prizes, as well as candy.
“There will also be some painted shells, spooky creatures,” she said.
As they exit the event, children will receive a scavenger hunt they can take part in.
“They have two weeks to complete the scavenger hunt, so there’s no rush,” Jacobson said.
Participants can take photos of the found objects with a cell phone or other device.
“Those who find the most will win prizes,” she said.
Trick-o-treaters are encouraged to dress up as TCH is hosting a costume contest as part of the festival. Some of the categories include young (ages 0-6), teenage (ages 6-12), and individual (ages 12-18).
“Also, there’s a family category, a group category and best pet,” Jacobson said.
Like last year, TCH will post photos of the contestants on its Facebook page for people to vote on.
“The public can vote on the winners,” she said.
The top picks will be awarded prizes.
Advance registration is available for those planning to attend.
“We are doing suggested time slots at every half-hour, but it’s not required,” Jacobson said.
To register, call 239-472-2155 or visit the “Calendar” at www.sanibelcommunityhouse.net.
The sponsors for this year’s festival include the Friends Who Care, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank and Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club.
“We really appreciate the groups who have supported and continue to support The Community House to make this event possible,” she said. “Thank you to the individuals who donated candy, as well.”
Residents and visitors are invited to swing by.
“What better way to show off your creativity that’s been cooped up during COVID than to show off your costumes and fun family flair?” Jacobson asked.
