Edison, Ford estates to offer youth camps

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers offers school break camps ages 6-12 throughout the school year. The programs are designed to enhance children’s education in STEAM (science technology, engineering, art, and math), history and the natural world. Camps are taught by the Edison Wild Wizards in the “living laboratory” at the estates and run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Registration is open for the following camps:
– Oct 15: Spooky Science
In keeping with the Halloween spirit, participants will create some wild and wacky science experiments, including a glowing lava lamp and several forms of slime. Cost is $45 for member and $50 for non-members.
– Nov. 22-24: Code Camp
The camp teaches the basic logic of computer science. Participants will explore loops, switches and functions that make up the building blocks of video games. They will get to take home a drive with their creations and a library of code examples. Cost is $120 for member and $145 for non-members.
– Dec. 20-23: Creative Chemistry
Participants will learn about chemistry through experimentation. Subjects of study include: crystals and minerals, slime (polymers), chemical reactions and more. Cost is $160 for member and $185 for non-members.
– Dec. 27-30: Design & Innovation
Following in the footsteps of Edison and Ford, participants will unlock their inner inventor and designer. They will learn how to make things using computer aided design (CAD) and a 3-D printer. In the camp, the Edison winter home becomes a subject of study as the young inventors create a digital model of the house. Cost is $160 for member and $185 for non-members.
