KLCB hosts annual art awards ceremony
Keep Lee County Beautiful recently hosted its 31st annual Keep Lee County Beautiful “Leave the Scene Clean” calendar awards ceremony at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers.
The contest drew hundreds of entries from students, representing public, private and home schools in Lee County. Submitted work was judged on artistic execution and originality, as well as environmental theme, such as litter prevention, recycling, community cleanup and protecting the environment.
The 12 first place selections — one from grades 1-12 — and the cover winner will be featured in the 2022 calendar. Also selected were honorable mentions in each grade. First place winners were awarded a $50 prize, while the 12th grade and cover winner got a $500 cash scholarship from Covanta Energy.
The ceremony included an exhibit of the winning artwork and the release of the calendar.
The calendars are available for a $3 donation through participating Lee County schools, which retain all proceeds collected with the funding being used to pay for environmental projects at the school.
The project is made possible through corporate sponsorships.
