SCCF welcomes new coastal resilience manager

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation has hired Carrie Schuman, Ph.D., for the newly created position of coastal resilience manager thanks to a two-year funding agreement with the Captiva Erosion Prevention District.

She will perform sea level research, coordinate adaption and resiliency strategies for Captiva’s bayside and the region, and lead efforts toward long-term climate solutions, public education, and outreach.

With broad interdisciplinary science expertise, including marine, climate and social sciences, Schuman earned her bachelor’s degree in marine and freshwater biology from the University of New Hampshire, where she graduated magna cum laude. She earned her master’s in marine science and technology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary ecology with a focus on fisheries and aquatic sciences from the University of Florida.

Schuman’s professional career has included academic instruction and research on climate change, journalism training, laboratory study and environmental restoration.
