REFUGE/DDWS Supervisory Refuge Ranger Toni Westland talks to local youths about sea turtles.

On July 21, the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s education team visited a summer camp in the underserved community of Tice with a program, “Swimming with Success.” Concentrating on sea turtles, it was one of several that the refuge has been bringing into the community in an initiative to embrace Tice through educational support, starting with its Wildlife on Wheels in January. Supervisory Refuge Ranger Toni Westland reported, “Tice Elementary was WoW’s first visit, and we were met with such incredible enthusiasm. We have truly established a special relationship with the students, teachers and PTA there. The kids come running in excitement for hugs when they see ‘Ding’ arrive for a special program.”
