Lighthouse of SWFL provides summer experiences for youths
Summer Experiences for Lighthouse of SWFL was held on July 6-23.
A fully customized and hybrid experimental summer learning program was to serve children ages 0-21 who are blind or visually impaired and their families. The activities held both in person and virtually were led by Lighthouse of SWFL certified staff instructors Kya Cain, Roselyn Hoffman, Tina Paulsen and Program Services Supervisor Diane “DC” Colburn.
The kids participated in different activities each day arranged by age groups. Summer Experiences included sports day with disc golf, splash pad at local parks, baking class with tempting desserts, T-Rex in the park and trivia night. Field trips included Lee County Library System Talking Books, IMAG, Calusa Nature Center, and Peace River Wildlife Center.
The Sanibel Sea School provided seashore opportunity to touch, feel and explore including surfboard adventures. Lighthouse of SWFL Assistive Technology instructors Crystle Barrs and Anne Hatton provided technology tidbits. A special guest from Operations Control at Kennedy Space Center offered an interactive NASA experience.
The finale was celebrated at Lighthouse of SWFL with a visit from the North Fort Myers Fire Department, SWFL Community Drummers, Kona Ice, and Beesley’s Paw Prints, as well as to create tie-dye tote bags and rain sticks.
