DDWS seeking artists, designers and fashionistas

In celebration of its 40th anniversary and to bring awareness to the importance of repurposing used items, educating about trash management and recycling appropriately, the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge will host its second annual “Project Refuge: A Couture Fashion Show Using Trash” on March 31 on Sanibel and it will include a ticketed luncheon and runway show.
The event will benefit conservation efforts at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
Currently, the Project Refuge Committee is seeking inspired, resourceful and style-savvy individuals to enter wearable fashion created from materials that might otherwise have ended up in a landfill or recycling facility. The fun and unique event aims to inspire people to use waste materials to create artful and treasured items, hopefully kindling the spark of innovation for all those who attend.
The juried designs will be showcased at the event, with the following cash prizes awarded: $500 for first place, $350 for second place and $250 for third place, plus $100 for the People’s Choice.
The deadline to enter is Oct. 15.
