Chamber institutes new COVID-19 measures
In light of recent coronavirus spikes locally, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce has placed a pause on in-person monthly luncheon meetings.
“The board of directors has voted unanimously to hold off on physical business meetings for at least a couple of months,” chamber President and Chief Executive Officer John Lai said.
In addition, the chamber has scheduled a visit from the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida’s Mobile Pediatric Vaccination Clinic on Aug. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of its Francis P. Bailey Jr. Visitor Center, at 1159 Causeway Blvd., Sanibel. The free clinic, which will administer Pfizer coronavirus immunization, is walk-up only. Although it targets ages 12 and older, all ages are welcome. A parent or authorized guardian must accompany a minor for vaccination.
The mobile clinic will return on Sept. 23 to administer the second doses.
“This delta variant of the coronavirus has quickly become a pandemic of the unvaccinated, and we want to do all we can to keep island residents safe,” Lai said. “It is my hope that making a vaccination site more available to our community will make decisions easier for those citizens who are on the fence.”
