Junonia found on Sanibel
Tony Swin, of Kansas City, Missouri, found a three-inch junonia on the afternoon of July 7 in front of the Sanibel Beach Club on Sanibel. He was in about waist-deep water after Tropical Storm Elsa has passed. Swin reported that he felt the shell four times, but because of the rough waters, he kept getting knocked off of it. On the fifth time he was able to go under and pull it up. He added that he was on the island with more than 60 family members from Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, California, Illinois, Florida and Kansas. Members of his family have been coming to the islands for over 50 years, and while they go shelling every year, it is the first time anyone in the group has found such a unique treasure.
