Connor Thomas, 13, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, found a junonia on June 22 at about 7 p.m. near Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel during a negative low tide. His mother, Jennifer Thomas, reported that he found it while snorkeling and diving for shells in about 4-5 feet of water. “Only the tip was sticking out, and the rest was covered in sand and sea slime,” so he dug it up, Connor added. Thomas noted that her son is becoming an avid sheller and does most of his shelling with goggles underwater. He loves watching shelling videos on YouTube and learning about marine life and ecosystems.
