LEE COUNTY

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

TEEN PROGRAMS

– July 13: Incredible Invertebrates at 1 p.m.

Do you know that 97 percent of the animal species on the planet have no bones? They are called invertebrates. Dr. Allison and Dr. Genet will introduce participants to some invertebrate friends and tell them all about the spineless — and boneless — wonders of the world. Learn how to make an upcycled jellyfish craft using a plastic trash bag and water bottle.

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– Today, July 7: Meet the Author and Illustrator

Special guests author Donna Gephart and illustrator Francesca Chessa will talk about their picture book, “Go Be Wonderful,” which features a spunky girl named Daisy and her pet dog, Mr. Bonkers. Also get a sneak peek at Gephart’s new novel for older readers, “Abbey Tried and True.”

– July 8: Pet Pal Open Face Sandwiches

This delicious treat is part art project and part recipe, and all children need is a slice of bread and any fixins’ they can find around the house.

– July 9: Meet Pet Detective Jamie Katz

Yup, pet detectives are really a thing, and Jamie Katz is one of the best. Katz will introduce children to her sniffer dogs, Gable and Fletcher, and show them how she trains her dogs to help find lost pets.

– July 12: The PAW-cademy Awards

Get ready to roll out the red carpet when a cast of special guests join Kenny and Page during the classic awards-style show honoring furry friends of the silver screen, hero animals and presidential pets.

– July 13: Celebrity Paw Prints

Using construction paper, paint and craft foam, children will create celebrity paw prints worthy of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Grab and Go Activity Kits with supplies for the craft are available at all library locations beginning on July 12, while supplies last.

BIRTH TO PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

– Today, July 7: Storytime Anytime!

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.
