Keep Lee County Beautiful reported that living in a coastal community makes it extremely important to gather trash no matter where we find it. Like the old saying goes, “All roads lead to the ocean,” this is true for where trash will end up. It includes litter on roads and in parks and inland waterways. The public can use the Ocean Conservancy’s “Clean Swell” mobile app to record trash picked up. Available free on the App store and Google Play, users simply record what they gather via the app. The distance cleaned is automatically tracked, total weight collected is estimated, and a historical record will be kept for future cleanups. After a cleanup is completed, the data will be uploaded to the global trash database. KLCB will be able to track the data to watch for any local trash trends.
