Single-vehicle fatality on San-Cap Road under investigation
The Sanibel Police Department responded to a single-vehicle fatality over the weekend.
On June 12 at 3:24 a.m., police received an alert from SiriusXM telematics regarding a 2020 white Toyota Corolla. Officers arrived at approximately Mile Marker 3 on Sanibel-Captiva Road at 3:35 a.m. and found the vehicle in the trees off the north side of the road, officials reported.
The Sanibel Fire and Rescue District and Lee County EMS arrived on scene a few minutes later. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a white man in his late 30s, was declared deceased by EMS.
Police requested assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
Officials reported that the LCSO has assumed control of the ongoing investigation.
