In recent weeks, several of the swallow-tailed kite chicks that Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation volunteers and staff have been monitoring have fledged and left their nests. Other nests still host younger chicks, and it will be several more weeks until they fledge. SCCF is working with the Avian Research and Conservation Institute to learn more about swallow-tailed kites and how the birds use Australian pines as nesting trees on Sanibel.
