Allison Waddington, of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, found a junonia on May 18 at about 12:30 a.m. when the tide was at its lowest near the Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel. John Waddington reported that he and his wife decided to take a late night walk from the Bandy Beach condos to Lighthouse Beach looking for shells along the shore. The couple had talked about finding a junonia, but just laughed it off since they had read they are hard to find. When they got to Lighthouse Beach, they found a lot of shells next to the treeline. Waddington continued that just when they were about to head back, his wife said she found one that looked like a giraffe in the roots of one tree. When he turned to look at the shell, he knew immediately she found a junonia. Waddington shook her and said, “You found it! You found it!” His wife did not believe him until he showed it to her on the shell guide. Waddington noted that it was their first trip to Sanibel and that she has always been lucky, that she can find four-leaf clovers all day. “I would say I am the lucky one though to have found her,” he added.
