Every year at this time, the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization develops a Transportation Improvement Program that includes the improvements that are planned over the next five years.

The draft fiscal year 2022 through fiscal year 2026 is available for review and comment at https://leempo.com/wp-content/uploads/Lee-MPO-Draft-TIP-for-FY-21-22-through-FY-25-26.pdf. Hard copies of the document are also available by calling the MPO offices at 239-244-2220.

Comments may be submitted to dscott@leempo.com, faxed to 239-790-2695 or mailed to P.O. Box 150045, Cape Coral, FL 33915-0045. Comments received by the end of the business day on June 17 will be presented to the MPO board members on June 18, where formal adoption will be decided.

Public comments may also be made at the meeting on June 18 at 9 a.m. in the Lee County Administration East Building, at 2201 Second St., Room 118, Fort Myers.

The Transportation Improvement Program is updated annually and is approved by the MPO board in June. The update of the TIP started with the development of transportation priorities in June of 2020, the development and presentation of the tentative work program by FDOT in January and with the final adoption at the MPO board meeting on June 18. To be eligible for federal funds, a project must be included in the TIP. This public notice of public involvement activities and time established for public review and comment on the TIP will satisfy the program of projects requirements for LeeTran.

At the same June meeting, a public hearing will also be held to amend the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan to add a project for the construction of a sidewalk to the US 41 Caloosahatchee Bridge and to add the capital purchase of technology equipment for LeeTran. The equipment is to be used for bus communications in conjunction with the current US 41 Florida Regional Advanced Mobility Elements (FRAME) project. The plan identifies the cost feasible projects for multi-modal transportation improvements through the year 2045. The proposed changes can be reviewed at https://leempo.com/wp-content/uploads/LRTP-Amendment-for-Posting-on-website.pdf. In addition, the MPO will conduct a public hearing to consider the multi-modal priorities, which can be reviewed at https://leempo.com/wp-content/uploads/T06a.Recommended-Multimodal-Priorities.pdf.

Following the public hearing items, the MPO board will also consider safety funded projects.
