LEE COUNTY

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– June 24: Virtual Craft Club for Adults at 2 p.m.

Calling all crafters! Join us for a live virtual craft club for adults where we will take turns sharing our latest crafty creations. Knitters, painters and crafters of all types welcome. Advance registration required before June 24 at 2 p.m.

TEEN PROGRAMS

– June 24: Teen Summer of Service Workshop Series at 1 p.m.

Earn service hours while helping your community with the Teen Summer of Service program. The six-week series introduces participants to a variety of agencies that provide services throughout the community and offers the opportunity for teens to provide solutions that can make Lee County even better. Each one hour program will include a short presentation by the guest speaker and breakout group discussions and activities. Presenters will offer several options for service projects. This program is with Juan Diez, of Lee County Supervisor of Elections. Advance registration required.

CHILDREN PROGRAMS

– June 23: Meet the Author

Tammi Sauer has written 30 picture books with more on the way. In “The Farm That Mac Built,” the scarecrow from Old Mac Donald’s farm emcees a barnyard theater production that collapses into hilarious chaos in this rollicking rendition of “The House That Jack Built.” And in “Not Now, Cow,” all of the farm animals are ready for the seasons to change — but not Cow.

– June 24: Clucking Chicken Cups

Time for another egg-cellent craft for kids. Today we’re making chickens out of cups that actually cluck.

– June 25: Meet Kamal Bell from Sankofa Farms

Kamal Bell is not your average farmer. He started the 12-acre Sankofa Farms, in Durham, North, Carolina, to improve food policy, teach nutritional literacy, and educate kids about agricultural-related professions. Bell will take us on a virtual tour of Sankofa Farms, including their working beehives, and give kids a “taste” of modern farm life.

– June 28: The Ocean’s Got Talent

We’ve searched the seven seas for some of the ocean’s most talented creatures. Octopus will perform an amazing escape, Mantis Shrimp will prove he’s not just a pretty face, and Angler Fish has an act you’ll definitely want to catch. With all this talent, will Sea Slug be able to shine? Puppetry and live action make this show a watery wonder.

– June 29: Printed Ocean Scenes

With recycled styrofoam and water based markers, kids can make their own beautiful ocean scenes. Grab and Go Activity Kits with supplies for this craft are available at all library locations, beginning June 28, while supplies last.

BIRTH TO PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

– June 23: Storytime Anytime!

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.
