SCBWA TO HOLD NETWORKING EVENT

The Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association will host Tips & Sips on June 16 at 6 p.m. at MudBugs Cajun Kitchen, at 1473 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Melanie Holliday, local project manager with Rapid Response Team, will share tips on being prepared for hurricanes and other threats.

Light appetizers will be provided, with a cash bar available.

CHAMBER TO HOST BUSINESS MEETING

The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce will hold its next business luncheon meeting on June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sundial Beach Resort, in partnership with the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association.

Guest speaker Dana Young, president and chief executive officer of Visit Florida, will speak about the current state of tourism from the perspective of Florida’s official destination marketing organization. FRLA general counsel Samantha Padgett will give a breakdown on this year’s legislative session and provide insight on the restaurant, lodging and hospitality industry. Adventures in Paradise is sponsoring the meeting.

Cost is $30 for chamber members only. Advanced registration is required by June 11 at 5 p.m. at sanibel-captiva.org or 239-472-8255; walk-ins are not accepted. Payment is due at time of registration.

CECI WELCOMES NEW INTERN

The Children’s Education Center of the Islands welcomed new intern Lauren Marchioni.

Originally from Massachusetts, Marchioni moved to Florida to attend college. She is a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, majoring in child and youth studies. Marchioni is completing her final internship at the CECI and will graduate in August with a bachelor’s degree.

She has worked and interned at a few child developments centers, the Boys & Girls Club and at elementary schools. Marchioni has a passion for working with children and loves being around them.

SAN CAP COMMUNITY BANK HIRES MARTINEZ

Alex Martinez has joined the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank as a customer service representative and teller at its main office, at 2406 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

He is responsible for assisting customers with personal and business banking transactions.

Prior to joining the bank, Martinez worked in the armored transportation industry for several years. Originally from Puerto Rico, he moved to the mainland in 2008 and relocated to Southwest Florida in 2018.
