On April 1 at sunrise, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation biologist Jack Brzoza led the annual beach training for new sea turtle volunteers. The team learned proper protocols for reporting and marking new sea turtle crawls, with some examples created on the beach to show the tell-tale tracks of a loggerhead sea turtle. SCCF staff observed a lot of holes on the beach and reminded beach-goers to please fill in any holes they dig so nesting turtles soon coming ashore can safely lay their eggs. The official start of sea turtle season kicked off on April 15.
