TCH’s Community Social to spotlight Indian cuisine

The Community House is still taking reservations and orders for its monthly dinner set for this week.
The “Curry Night” Community Social will be held on April 14 starting at 6 p.m. and will feature three starters, two entrees and two side dishes, plus a dessert that is available for an additional fee.
TCH Director of Marketing and Event Planning Sarah Jacobson explained that as more and more people are getting vaccinated, events like the dinner give the public a chance to get out and socialize.
“It’s about bringing our friends and family together and getting to dine together,” she said.
Resident Chef Jarred Harris is planning to serve up garlic naan bread, poppadums with raita and homemade chutneys, and mulligatawny soup for the starters. The main entrees for the meal will be tandoori chicken and beef madras, while the side pairings are vegetable jalfrezi and basmati rice.
“It is one of Chef Jarred’s specialties,” Jacobson said of Indian food.
“And it’s something people can’t get on the island,” she added.
For an extra $5, coconut caramel custard will be available for the dessert.
“People are always disappointed when they don’t order dessert and see other people get it,” Jacobson said, noting that extras are usually not made. “I would highly suggest ordering it ahead of time.”
Advance reservations are being taken for up to 50 people to dine in.
“We are doing indoor and outdoor seating,” she said, adding that dine-in reservations can be made for groups of two to 10 and that the tables are spread out. “You will eat in your social pod or group.”
TCH will again have safety measures in place in light of COVID-19.
Temperatures will be taken by a staff member at the door.
“People are required to wear a mask when moving around in the building, but they can remove their mask when they sit down to eat,” Jacobson said. “You are called up by table number to the buffet line.”
“We are still serving with masks on and in gloves behind plexiglass,” she added.
The starters will be preplaced on each table in individual containers.
For those who do not feel comfortable yet dining out but want to enjoy the meal, there is a curbside pick-up option available. To-go boxes can be ordered in advance, then picked up from 5 to 6 p.m.
“You pull around to the side by the kitchen door,” Jacobson said. “You give us your name and you will get a sampling of every single item on the menu.”
Those who choose pick-up also have the option to add the dessert for $5.
There is no cap on the number of take-out orders being accepted.
The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

“Where else are you going to get a fun curry night on Sanibel at the end of season, much less any other time?” Jacobson asked. “So, come out and see your friends and say goodbye to those headed north.”
