SCAL welcomes new president, celebrates outgoing one

The Sanibel-Captiva Art League recently welcomed in Nancy Sperte as its new president and celebrated the work of the organization’s outgoing president, Anita Force Marshall.
The past year was challenging due to the pandemic, but Marshall handled the changes in innovative ways including virtual showings and meetings and enhanced safety protocols for SCAL events.
“Facilitating my vision of being an integral part of our community and involving the league in more island venues that our art, creativity and inspiration is more available for everyone,” she said about her favorite elements of being president.
Marshall has been with the organization for eight years.
Sperte, who served under Marshall for the past two years, followed a lifelong interest in the arts. Professionally, she guided an art purchase program for a major company, and Sperte later engaged in studies in drawing and painting at various institutions, including the Ridgewood Art Institute, The New York Botanical Gardens and Barrier Island Group for the Arts. After a marketing career in investment management, and with the inspiration of her artist mother, she returned to her love of hands-on drawing and painting through classes at BIG ARTS and joined the SCAL after meeting other members.
“We have some excellent artists who provide interesting programs that advance our creativity and knowledge of techniques, and we welcome artists of all levels,” Sperte said of what the organization offers.
