County library system providing virtual programs

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:

ADULT PROGRAMS

– April 15: Medicare Part C at noon

Join SHINE for a Lunch & Learn series about Medicare Advantage Plan costs and coverage rules. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– April 21: Medicare Part B at noon

Join SHINE for a Lunch & Learn series about the Part B enrollment process. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– April 22: Know the Ten Signs of Alzheimer’s at 1 p.m.

Early detection has its benefits. Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking and behavior that interfere with daily life. Join the Alzheimer’s Association to learn about 10 common warning signs and what to look for in yourself and others. The program also covers typical age-related changes, how to approach someone about memory concerns, the importance of early detection and benefits of diagnosis. Advance registration required.

– April 23: Author Series with Marie Bostwick

Marie Bostwick is a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of 18 works of historical and contemporary fiction, including her latest novel, “The Restoration of Celia Fairchild.” The presentation is part of an author series provided by the Florida Library Association, featuring award-winning and best-selling authors of various genres to inform, educate and entertain. Authors will spend time chatting about various topics, including: how they became a writer, their writing process, how libraries have impacted their career and audience Q&A.

– April 27: Job Searching 101, Cover Letters at 10 a.m.

Learn how to write a professional cover letter, and why cover letters are so important for a job search. The workshop is a live, interactive virtual event. Advance registration required before April 26 at midnight.

– April 28: Virtual Book Discussion for Adults at 10 a.m.

Calling all readers! A live virtual book discussion for adults. There is no assigned title. Instead, participants take turns sharing about the latest books that they have read. Advance registration required before April 28 at 10 a.m.

– April 28: Medicare Part D at noon

Join SHINE for a Lunch & Learn series about Part D costs and coverage. The presentation is offered in conjunction with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors and adults with disabilities. Advance registration required.

– April 28: Murder at the Library Book Club Author Presentation at 7 p.m.

In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event featuring New York Times bestselling author Marie Benedict discussing her new novel, “The Mystery of Mrs. Christie.” The book is this month’s “Murder at the Library” book club selection and is available in print throughout the library system and electronically as an ebook through Overdrive and Hoopla. Advance registration required.

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It continues to offer curbside hold pick up Tuesday through Saturday.
