Sanibel Sea School to offer after-school art sessions

The Sanibel Sea School will offer its After School Ocean Art sessions on March 23, March 30, April 6 and April 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at its flagship campus on Sanibel. The cost is $20 per session.
Art is a large part of the organization’s marine science curriculum and educators incorporate creativity into almost all of their day classes and camps. The nature-inspired art projects are overwhelmingly popular with families and children, so each year an entire after-school series is dedicated to ocean art.
Participants will have the opportunity to get creative with natural materials. They will have the opportunity to collect materials during a beachwalk, such as shells, coconuts, palm fronds and more that they find that inspires them. Projects will include coconut comb jellies, painted sea life mosaics and even Australian-inspired musical instruments.
“Our art classes are unique because students have the opportunity to work with interesting natural materials that are different from media they’ve used in school,” Education Programs Manager Shannon Stainken said. “We just love seeing the creativity come through in their projects that is inspired by the natural environment.”
