In preparation for a major facility restoration, the Captiva Island Yacht Club, with the assistance of the Captiva Island Fire Control District, recently arranged for the honorable folding of a 48-star flag. The flag originally flew over former President Abraham Lincoln’s gravesite in Springfield, Illinois, officials reported. The flag was given to the family of Gib Warren in memory of his grandfather by the Monument Association in 1953. Warren, in turn, donated the flag to the yacht club in memory of Commodore Dale Hanson. The flag will be returned to the Historical Museum in Springfield, Illinois.
