The Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church reported that after 68 years of church music ministry, organist and Director of Music Hank Glass will retire on Easter Sunday on April 4.

It will be the first time that the church resumes its in-person worship — with limited seating by registration — since the pandemic broke out in March of 2020. Over the past year, Glass has ensured that music was a part of the church’s live streamed and recorded services online, officials said.

Glass has served the church for the last 10 years. He doubled the size of the parish choir and brought the music program to a critically acclaimed level of performance during his tenure. Many instrumentalists have been introduced to the church, along with special recitals and music programs.

Glass has played organ recitals across the country and is featured in Harry J. Winterton’s book “Notable Organs and Organists of the World,” located in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He began his career as assistant cathedral organist and choirmaster for the Christ Church Cathedral in Missouri. For his retirement, Glass plans to enjoy camping with his wife and traveling to see family and friends.
