CROW presents next weekly Virtual Speaker Series program
Presented by LCEC, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife’s weekly Virtual Speaker Series will continue on March 23 at 4 p.m. with “Bobcat Spatial Ecology on Everglades Tree Islands” with Katherine Buckman, a master’s graduate student at Florida Atlantic University.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission engages in collaborative projects to monitor wildlife in its natural habitat. Buckman will discuss a recent research study that is funded by the U.S. Geological Survey in partnership with FAU using data collected from 2005-19 via game cameras. The area of focus for her study is on improving the understanding of mammalian use of tree islands in the Everglades, specifically bobcats. The presentation will provide insight into how terrestrial mammals respond to changing water levels and why the public should conserve the critical habitat areas.
The Virtual Speaker Series programs are approximately one hour in length. The talks are presented using Zoom and are limited to 100 participants, so advance registration is required. Admission is $10 per device, plus taxes and fees. To register, visit www.CROWClinic.org or CROW’s Facebook page under the “Events” tab.
Buckman received her Bachelor of Science in wildlife ecology and conservation from the University of Florida in 2019. She is currently studying bobcat spatial ecology in the Everglades at FAU, and her research interests are in invasive ecology, mammalogy, ecosystem restoration, and Everglades/wetland restoration.
CROW’s Virtual Speaker Series will feature weekly programs, offered January through April, hosting professionals from across Southwest Florida who engage, educate and entertain participants with information about local conservation initiatives. For more information, visit www.CROWClinic.org.
