County library system providing virtual programming

The Lee County Library System, which includes the Captiva Memorial Library, is offering the following free virtual programming for all ages:
ADULT PROGRAMS
– Today, March 24: Murder at the Library Book Club Author Presentation at 7 p.m.
In partnership with Sourcebooks, Baker & Taylor will host an exclusive live virtual book club event featuring Cate Quinn discussing her debut novel,” Black Widows.” The book is this month’s “Murder at the Library” book club selection and is available in print throughout the library system and electronically as an ebook through Hoopla. Advance registration required.
– March 26: Author Series with Susan Meissner
Susan Meissner is a USA Today best-selling author of historical fiction with more than half a million books in print in 15 languages. She will discuss her latest novel, “The Nature of Fragile Things.” The presentation is part of an author series provided by the Florida Library Association, featuring award-winning and best-selling authors of various genres to inform, educate and entertain. Authors will spend time chatting about various topics, including: how they became a writer, their writing process, how libraries have impacted their career and audience Q&A.
– March 29: How to Overcome Genealogical Brick Wall Issues at 10 a.m.
Overcoming dead-ends, also known as brick walls, are common as a genealogist proceeds through the research process. Learn the ways to bust through or detour around them by “mining” records for clues. Various resources available for further assistance will also be provided. Advance registration required.
– March 31: Virtual Book Discussion for Adults at 10 a.m.
Calling all readers! A live virtual book discussion for adults. There is no assigned title. Instead, participants take turns sharing about the latest books that they have read. Advance registration required before March 31 at 10 a.m. Registrants will receive a confirmation email and reminder with the link to join the online discussion on GoToMeeting.
– March 31: Financial Literacy Class at 6 p.m.
Collaborate with peers, housing specialists and local experts to overcome barriers to rental housing, take steps toward repairing credit and establishing a realistic budget, creating a feasible plan to secure affordable and stable housing, and earn a Ready to Rent Certificate of Completion in a virtual class. Classes are Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 31 to May 5. The classes are offered in partnership with Learning Empowered. Advance registration required. For help registering, call 727-754-3976.

Enjoy storytime at home or on the go with Storytime Anytime! This is a condensed version of the in-person storytimes and includes a variety of songs, stories, rhymes and caregiver tips designed to promote and reinforce early literacy and language development.

The Captiva Memorial Library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It continues to offer curbside hold pick up Tuesday through Saturday.
