City council taking applications for multiple committees

The Sanibel City Council is accepting applications for the Recreation Financial Assistance Committee, Sanibel Vegetation Committee and Historical Preservation Committee.
The deadline for submissions is April 15 at 5 p.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the following listed responsibilities for all three committees may be altered to comply with current CDC and Florida Health Department guidance, officials reported.
RECREATION FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE
Eligibility includes:
– Members must be residents of Sanibel
– Members must be appointed by the Sanibel City Council for one-year terms
Responsibilities include:
– Physically attend a minimum of 75 percent of all committee meetings, typically scheduled year-round, every other month at 8:30 a.m. in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road
– Other duties as outlined in the City of Sanibel’s Code of Ordinances

SANIBEL VEGETATION COMMITTEE
Qualifications include:
– Members are appointed by the Sanibel City Council for one-year terms
– Appointees must be full-time residents of Sanibel
– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interest in vegetation
Responsibilities include:
– Attend committee meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road
– Earn a passing score on the city’s Vegetation Competency Exam
– Assist in the administration of the city’s Vegetation Competency class and exam for landscape professionals. Historically, the class and test have been offered four times per year — January, April, June and October — on the first two Friday mornings of the month. Due to COVID-19, vegetation classes and exams are being offered online only.
– Assist the city’s Planning and Natural Resources Departments with vegetation inspections
– Other duties as outlined in the City of Sanibel’s Code of Ordinances

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
Qualifications include:
– Members are appointed by the Sanibel City Council for one-year terms
– Appointees must be full-time residents of Sanibel
– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interest in historical preservation
Responsibilities include:
– Attend committee meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road
– Assist in the acquisition and de-accession procedures of materials and objects acquired by the committee
– Assist the city’s Historical Preservation Committee in collecting, procuring, preserving and displaying items relating to the history of the islands of Sanibel, Captiva and their environs
– Other duties as outlined in the City of Sanibel’s Code of Ordinances
