Chamber moves date for city council candidates forum
The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce has changed the date for its virtual Zoom candidate forum to Jan. 21 starting at noon, so as not to conflict with the presidential inauguration. The forum is designed to help residents prepare for the March 2 election for three city council seats.
Candidates had until Jan. 15 to qualify for a chance to succeed Mayor Mick Denham, who is not seeking re-election, and Councilmembers Chauncey Goss and Jerry Muench, who were appointed in 2020 as interim members to replace former Councilmembers Jason Maughan and Kevin Ruane.
“We are pleased to provide this service to the Sanibel constituency so that voters can make their most informed decisions,” chamber President John Lai said. “The forum format will include a predetermined Q&A with each candidate. NBC2 anchor Peter Busch will moderate.”
Busch won three consecutive Emmys for news reporting during his time at KPHO in Phoenix. More recently, he won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for a series of stories on Rio de Janeiro’s preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games. Busch has covered major national stories over his 15 years in television news, including Hurricane Katrina and the 2016 presidential election.
Chamber members should watch their email for an invitation. Attendees need not belong to the chamber to participate and can receive an invitation by contacting Member Services Manager Ashley Pignato at 239-472-8255 or Ashley@sanibel-captiva.org.
A Zoom recording of the forum will be accessible via the chamber’s Website following the event.
