The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, presents the following:

Sissi’s Kids Painting Class

Artist Sissi Janku will host an island-inspired painting class today, July 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 8 and older, participants will complete a painting using acrylic paint through different styles and artists throughout history. Cost is $50; all materials will be provided. Registration required.

Community Social

A Community Social will take place on July 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. with theme of “Rib Night.” The menu will feature: pork rinds, sweetcorn salad and Brunswick stew for starters; baby back ribs, St. Louis style ribs and country style spare ribs for entrees; and black-eyed peas and rice, collard greens and corn bread, and macaroni and cheese for sides. For a $5 donation, the desserts will include an ice cream sundae bar, chocolate brownies and root beer floats. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door.

Culinary Social Class

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will host a Culinary Social Class on July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. With the theme of “Pickling Class,” the menu will feature: mango pickles, bread and butter pickles, and summer squash pickles. Come learn, socialize, eat and drink. Cost is $25 per person; registration required.

Culinary Social Class

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will host a Culinary Social Class on July 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. With the theme of “Curry 101,” the menu will feature: pumpkin peanut and sweet potato curry, Thai green curry and jasmine rice, and Caribbean curried chicken and roti. Come learn, socialize, eat and drink. Cost is $25 per person; registration required.

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will host a Culinary Social Class on July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. With the theme of “Simply Desserts,” the menu will feature: classic chocolate tartlets, cream puffs and eclairs, and pecan and pistachio brittles. Come learn, socialize, eat and drink. Cost is $25 per person; registration required.

Kids Summer Cooking

Open to youth ages 8-14, Resident Chef Jarred Harris will hold the annual Kids Summer Cooking Classes and Camp on July 29-Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Aug. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The first week will cover:

– July 29: Kitchen orientation and breads, soups and salsas

– July 30: Pizzas and pastas

– July 31: Team challenge

– Aug. 1: Desserts

– Aug. 2: Team challenge

The second week will cover:

– Aug. 5: Thailand, with fresh ingredients and flavor

– Aug. 6: India, with spices and herbs

– Aug. 7: China, with rice and noodles

– Aug. 8: France, with cookies, cakes and pasties

– Aug. 9: Africa, with coco and spice

The registration fees are $50 per day or $250 for a week, which includes lunch.

The deadlines to sign up are July 19 at noon for week one and July 26 at noon for week two.

With the theme of “Quick Breads,” the menu will feature: garlic and rosemary focaccia, sweet potato and pecan bread, and banana and cranberry bread. Come learn, socialize, eat and drink. Cost is $25 per person; registration required.

Community Social

A Community Social will take place on Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. with theme of “Greek Night.” The menu will feature: spring onion fritters and red pepper hummus, lamb and mint souvlaki with tzatziki and warm pita bread, tomato, feta and pistachio salad with yogurt and dill dressing, and traditional Green salad for starters; and spanakopita, beef moussaka, dolma, briam and vegetable kabobs for the mains. For a $5 donation, the desserts will include an ice cream sundae bar and baklava. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door.

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will host a Culinary Social Class on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. With the theme of “Soups and Stews,” the menu will feature: coconut and butternut squash bisque, asparagus soup, and tomato basil soup. Come learn, socialize, eat and drink. Cost is $25 per person; registration required.

The Community House is selling honey harvested from its hive, along with other products made by Resident Chef Jarred Harris.
