The Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will host its monthly luncheon on June 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa.

The guest speaker is Beth Oliver, director of marketing for the Offshore Sailing School.

She will present the program “Controlling Your Destiny.”

“It’s important that trials and tribulations do not define our careers,” Oliver said. “One can wait for something to happen, or one can choose to make something happen.”

Oliver built her career with large corporations in Detroit, managing and negotiating on behalf of some of the world’s most recognized brands. Due to downsizing, mergers and economic turmoil within the industry, she had to reinvent herself, becoming a multifaceted marketing entrepreneur in the process.

Oliver will speak about her journey encompassing corporations, retail, hospitality and non-profit. She was a partner in a gift and antique shop. She owned and operated an award-winning Select Registry Bed & Breakfast in Portland, Maine. Relocating to Southwest Florida, the journey continued through the non-profit industry finally leading to a dream job.

“Expect a dynamic and surprising conversation with Beth,” ABWA President Gloria Garrett said. “She will share lessons from her circuitous yet connected career path and challenge us to take control of our futures.”

The chapter meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, at 1451 Middle Gulf Drive, Sanibel. Networking starts at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and a speaker from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. The meetings are open to the public.
