Marcy Paulson, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, found a junonia on June 18 at about 7:15 a.m. near the Sanibel Arms West. She was with her husband, Jeff, and children, Clara, 14, and Everett, 12. She reported that her family had been shelling together since about 6 a.m. that day. They had found a few bright scallop shells, but nothing else. They were just about to go in for breakfast, when Everett found an olive shell. While the family was admiring it, an extraordinarily vibrant rainbow appeared over the ocean. Her husband jokingly suggested, “Maybe there’s something else here!” Paulson put her shell scooper in the surf and pulled out a large shell. Clara and Everett immediately identified it as a junonia. She explained that it is the family’s third visit to Sanibel, and it has been their hope to find one. They are all very excited!
