An upcoming island event will celebrate new tenants moving into the Celebration Center – one as recently as May 1 – plus existing businesses relocating in that section along Andy Rosse Lane.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will be held on May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center. Sandy Stilwell Youngquist, the owner of the property, explained that Captiva Island Massage & Wellness recently opened its doors and Premier Sotheby’s International Realty moved in last year.

Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals also has taken up residence at the center.

Plus, two of Stilwell Youngquist’s restaurants – the Sunshine Seafood Cafe and Wine Bar, and Latte Da – changed venues. The cafe relocated to Andy Rosse from down the street off Captiva Drive, while the ice cream and coffee shop moved out of Celebration Center and into a space just across the street.

“This is the time to celebrate all of our new locations,” she said.

The event will feature food, drinks, music and special giveaways.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to swing by.

“You can go around to the different locations,” Stilwell Youngquist said the businesses within the center, which also houses Captiva Island Pizza. “They’ll have different things there going on.”

“We’ll have a bar downstairs,” she said, adding that there will be light appetizers.

Dr. Brian Healy, owner of Sanibel Wellness Incorporated, Fort Myers Acupuncture and Massage, and now Captiva Island Massage & Wellness, said there will be finger foods, as well as beer and wine.

“We’re going to be offering free 10-minute chair massages,” he added.

Healy explained that attendees can pick up a punch card to get stamped at the participating businesses, which they then can turn in for a chance to win a raffle prize. Additional giveaways are in the works.

“There’ll be a prize given away that night,” he said.

A Florida-licensed, nationally-board certified acupuncture physician and doctor of Oriental medicine, Healy is also a Florida and New York state licensed massage therapist with experience in integrated medicine, including 25 years as a medical massage therapist and 30 years as a certified Kripalu yoga and meditation teacher.

“Both of the islands have such a wonderful healing quality to them,” he said of opening the Captiva office. “There is no holistic physician on the island, so I wanted to bring my services out to the island.”

A primary care practitioner, Healy can treat a variety of disorders, such as colds and flu, allergies, osteoarthritis, headaches and migraines, digestive disorders, and chronic pain. He specializes in neurological, orthopedic and musculoskeletal issues. A typical treatment plan may include diagnostic testing, acupuncture, orthopedic massage, electro-therapy, herbal medicines, homeopathic remedies, nutritional supplements, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound and injection therapy.

“We’re looking not just at the symptoms, but the underlying cause,” Healy said of the differences between conventional Western medicine and what he offers. “We go a little bit deeper into the body.”

“We treat the whole person, we’re not just treating the symptoms (with chemical drugs),” he said, noting that the process could entail looking at physical, mental, emotional and environmental issues.

“The intention is to help the body heal itself,” Healy added.

On staff, he has associate physician Dr. Judith Andrews and licensed massage therapists Kristin Marlow and Tabitha Hobbs. Some of the Captiva office offerings include therapeutic and deep tissue massages, reflexology, lymphatic drainage massage, Reiki, and European facials and skin care.

Treatments are available by appointment Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“And other times with advance notice,” Healy said.

He invited the public to come out for the ribbon-cutting and open house.

“It’s going to be a really fun time with all of the businesses participating and live music and food and giving people free things,” Healy said. “And, this is the time of the year when the locals can kind of get out and reconnect.”

Stilwell Youngquist echoed that.

“It’s going to be a fun celebration,” she said.
