One of two top U.S. officials expected to arrive on Sanibel
The vice president, or president, is anticipated to arrive in Fort Myers on Friday for a visit.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction on May 29 for VIP movement from May 31 at 10 p.m. to June 4 at 1 p.m., which spans three nautical miles in Lee County and covers Southwest Florida Intentional Airport. Minus exceptions, aircrafts are prohibited in the area.
According to the National Business Aviation Association, a TFR is a restriction on an area of airspace due to the movement of government VIPs, special events, natural disasters or other unusual events. VIP TFRs are significantly restrictive and are issued for the movement of the president and vice president.
The visitor’s final destination upon arrival is listed as Sanibel.
Vice President Mike Pence and his family have been known to spend time on the islands.
Mostly recently, he came down for a visit on March 1-3.
In March 2018, both he and Second Lady Karen Pence arrived in Southwest Florida for a vacation. He and his wife stayed on Sanibel during the week and were spotted at a couple locations, including Pinocchio’s Original Italian Ice Cream and Gramma Dot’s at the Sanibel Marina.
About the same time in 2017, the couple touched down in Lee County and spent time on the islands. They attended a service at the Sanibel Community Church, as well as dined at the Timbers Restaurant.
