Lily & Co. Jewelers has three reasons to celebrate: the birthdays of mascots Lily, 15, Angel, 11, and Jewel, 1, who brings a little sparkle to the team.

The trio extends an invitation to the famous birthday bash, a “pawsitively” good time, on May 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. under a big tent in the parking lot of Lily & Co., at 520 Tarpon Bay Road, Sanibel.

It will be an afternoon filled with food, fun activities and raising funds for a very worthy cause – the Animal Refuge Center. The Fort Myers-based no-kill shelter is dedicated to finding loving homes for cats and dogs who have been spayed or neutered. It was started in 1988 by a group of individuals who came together with the vision of creating a positive solution to pet overpopulation.

“It takes a supportive community for ARC to carry out its important mission,” Dan Schuyler, co-owner of Lily & Co. with Karen Bell and owner of Angel and Jewel, said. “We are so excited to celebrate more than a decade of supporting ARC.”

Attendees will be able to shop the KC Designs Trunk Show featuring the canine and feline collection, as well as dog and cat giftware by Mariposa under the big tent, where there will also be raffle tickets for a chance to win a diamond dog bone pendant valued at $900. The tickets are $5 each or six for $25 and may be purchased in advance at Lily & Co.

Morningstar Dog Training returns with tips for an obedient dog, and Jeff Jarrett will sketch caricature drawings. Island Grooming will talk spa and styling for pets, and Jan Pearson of Grand Affair Pet Photography will showcase her offerings for long-lasting memories.

Of course, a birthday celebration is never complete without two kinds of cakes – one for the two-legged attendees and one for the pups. Island Paws will provide the pup treats, and the Sanibel Catering Company by Bailey’s will grill hot dogs and such. Joey’s Custard will have an ice cream sundae bar.

There will also be a costume contest, with first, second and third place awarded to the best-dressed pooch. Judging will be held at 2 p.m.

“It will be a great birthday celebration, so mark you calendar and don’t forget your furry friend’s leash,” Schuyler said.
