Annual ‘Bags for FISH’ raises nearly $2K
For nearly 10 years, the Sanibel-Captiva Art League has challenged local artists to design and paint a unique, reusable Bailey’s grocery bag to be auctioned off in support of F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva.
This year, 36 bags were displayed at the grocery store for shoppers to admire and bid on.
Thanks to coordinator Jeannine Desmarais, the participating artists and Bailey’s General Store, the 2019 silent auction of the decorated “Bags for FISH” helped to raised $1,865. The proceeds from the bags will be used to support the food pantry and other programs available to help island neighbors.
“I am so overwhelmed and humbled by the support of the art league and the bidders of these beautiful bags,” F.I.S.H. President Maggi Feiner said. “On behalf of F.I.S.H., our board, staff, volunteers and most importantly our community, thank you. Your kindness, talent, compassion for others brings tears to my eyes.”
The Sanibel-Captiva Art League is a non-profit organization formed to promote public interest in and appreciation of the fine arts.
