A $30,000 gift from John Madden has enabled the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation’s Wildlife & Habitat Management to purchase a new truck for its monitoring of shorebirds, tortoises, frogs, sea turtles and more.

“I am extremely grateful for the beautiful new truck, as it is perfect for my daily work needs,” shorebird biologist Audrey Albrecht said. “I work in the field year-round on a variety of projects including but not limited to migratory shorebird surveys, shorebird nest monitoring, bald eagle nest monitoring, gopher tortoise monitoring, freshwater fish sampling, vegetation surveys, frog call surveys, sea turtle monitoring, rescue of sick and injured wildlife, and trail camera maintenance.”

“I need a vehicle that can fit into crowded beach parking lots during busy season but also safely traverse wet and muddy firelines out on our preserves,” she added. “The new truck, which we have dubbed the Madden Mobile in John’s honor, is perfect for all these things.”
