Recreation center to offer yoga for osteoporosis

The Sanibel Recreation Center is taking registrations for its new yoga for osteoporosis class.

The six-class session will take place:

– April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21 and May 28 at from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

Cost is $60 for members and $78 for non-members.

Each class size is limited to 12 participants. If space is available, a drop-in rate of $12.25 per class for members and $15.50 per class for non-members will be available.

Yoga for osteoporosis is designed for students of any age and level of yoga experience. Students taking part to build bone density, whether suffering with osteoporosis or osteopenia, or as a preventative therapy will receive guidance for a safe yoga practice.

The class will explore 12 poses that are part of yoga for bone health. The use of chairs, blankets and blocks will help students find the version of each pose which is most supportive of their needs.

Please bring an empty stomach, bare feet and an open mind.

Participants may want socks and a sweater to be warm during final relaxation at the end.
